Evian Championship: Inbee Park Seeks the Ladies Career Grand Slam in France

Perched on the foothills of the French Alps overlooking Lake Geneva South Korea's Inbee Park began her quest to silence the skeptics and complete the LPGA Grand Slam in Evian, France. There are two key facts to keep in mind this week: First, the Evian Championship was elevated to "Major Championship" status this year by the LPGA - making it the fifth major on the ladies' tour. Presidents Cup Teams and Captains' Picks Announced (October 8-11 in South Korea)

This year's President's Cup tournament will be played October 8-11 in Songdo IBD, Incheon City, South Korea. The tournament will be played on the relatively new 7,400+ yard Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea. Jay Haas will captain the US squad and Nick Price will lead the International Team. The top ten players on each team secured a place on their respective teams through points acquired during the regular season leaving two Captains' Picks for Haas and Price.

Yesterday Jay Haas selected Phil Mickelson who has an outstanding match-play resume and his son Bill Haas, a former FedEx Cup champion. Nick Price chose Sangmoon Bae from South Korea and Steven Bowditch from Australia. Rickie Fowler Wins Deutsche Bank Championship - Moves to #3 in the FedEx Cup Rankings

Rickie Fowler shot a final round -3 under par to defeat Hendrik Stenson by one stroke to finish at -15 under par at the Deutsche Bank tournament this Labor Day weekend.  This win moved Fowler into 3rd place in the FedEx Cup rankings and number 5 in the World Golf Rankings.

Fowler is undoubtedly having the best season of his young career and hope to finish strong at the BMW Championship, the Tour Championship and the President's Cup just around the corner. With Jordan Spieth having missed yet another cut, Jason Day failed to bolster his FedEx Cup lead by finishing T12 at -6 under par, but still holds the lead. Deutsche Bank Update: Hoffman Leads by 3 - Spieth at Risk of Missing Another Cut

With second round play still in-progress American Charlie Hoffman shot an incredible -8 under par today to finish at -12 under par three strokes ahead of Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge sitting at -9 under par. Four players are tied at -8 under par including Americans Rickie Fowler, reigning Players champion, and Zach Johnson, reigning Open Championship winner. Australia's Jason Day is still on the course holding steady at -6 under par. Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy is also on the course at +1 over par.

So where is Jordan Spieth? Good question. Spieth is currently at +4 over par and pending divine intervention is likely to miss his second cut - his second FedEx Cup playoff cut - in a row.While not  a matter of life and death, America's golden boy and presumed 2015 Player of the Year is at serious risk of loosing any viable chance of winning the FedEx Cup after leading in the point race most of this year. Deutsche Bank Championship: Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge Takes the Round 1 Lead

Brendon de Jonge shot -6 under par to take a two stroke lead after the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship outside of Boston. This tournament is the second leg of the four-week long FedEx Cup playoffs. Jason Day finished strong at -3 under par following his win at the Barclays last week who currently sits atop the FedEx Cup rankings just ahead of Jordan Spieth.

Meanwhile, the world's number ranked Rory McIlroy shot -1 under par in Round 1. McIlroy is ranked 15th in the race for the FedEx Cup. World Golf Rankings - McIlroy, Spieth and Day in Virtual Tie for Number 1 Ranking

The latest World Golf Rankings show Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day in a virtual ties for the number 1 male golfer in the world. Day's win at last week's Barclay tournament moved him within striking distance of McIlroy and Spieth. These figures reinforce the notion that we now truly have a pre-emininent "threesome" vying week in and week out for the top position.

A win at the Deutche Bank Championship could put Jason Day in the global poll position for the first time in his distinguished career.
