Stanford's Patrick Rogers plans to follow in Tiger Woods footsteps and turn pro following the NCAA Golf Tournament. Rogers is currently the #1 ranked amateur in the nation and the star of the Stanford University golf team. What will be Rogers first step into pro golf? Tiger Woods Return to Pro Golf is on a "Day to Day" Basis

PGA: In a morning press conference announcing his support for the Quicken Loans Nation PGA tournament next month Woods stated while he would like to play "today", in fact, his overall recovery from back surgery and ability to play at an elite level is "day to day." Woods continues to worked on his short game, yet is uncertain when he will be ready to test his full swing.

It's Official - Adam Scott is the World's #1 Ranked Men's Golfer

World Golf Rankings: Due to a little know mathematics formula and Tiger Woods still on the injured list Adam Scott ascended to the world's #1 golf ranking today ... without making a golf shot. Scott is now 0.14 points ahead of Woods. Moreover, the overall point separation between the world's #1 and #10 ranked players continues to decrease meaning almost any of the other nine golfers, including Woods, could climb to the #1 position with 1-2 wins.

HP Byron Nelson Update - Kaymer Contends While Spieth Makes the Cut

PGA: Round 3 of the HP Byron Nelson Championship begins with the Players champion Martin Kaymer 2 strokes of the lead and Jordan Spieth barely making the cut to play the weekend. World Ranking: Adam Scott will likely surmount Tiger Woods as the men's #1 ranked player in the world on May 19, 2014 due to the mathematical formula used by the World Golf Ranking organization. Even with Woods on the injured list and Scott not expected to play this week Scott - simply based upon his 'active' status, not his tournament 'performance' will ascend to the top of the World Golf Rankings.

Equipment: Seasoned golfers know that their golf scores are most affected by technique (50%), equipment (30%) and course management (20%). Nonetheless, equipment is unquestionably important. Woods Retains World #1 Ranking - Garcia and Rose Advance

PGA-World Rankings: While still sidelined by his back injury Tiger Woods retained his world #1 rank another week largely due to the mediocre play of Adan Scott, Hedrik Stenson, Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar at the Players Championship. Sergio Garcia moved up to #7 and Justin Rose moved up to #9. Despite his incredible play Jordan Spieth dropped to #8 in the world.

Kaymer Takes the Players Trophy

PGA-The Players: Despite a weather-delayed final round Martin Kaymer shot a -1 under par to capture his first win a the Players Championship by one stroke over Jim Furyk. Kaymer made two incredible putts on 17 and 18 Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth finished within 2 strokes of Kaymer.

Live From the Players: Kaymer and Spieth in Match Play?

PGA - They Players: Mid-way through the third round none of the top 10 contenders have yet to make a serious challenge to Martin Kaymer (-12 under) and Jordan Spieth (-11 under) leaving the last pair - currently on the second hole - in a temporary "match play" situation. Lee Westwood, Gary Woodland and Russell Henley are all at -8 under par.

The Player's Leaderboard

PGA Tour: Russell Hensley leads the Player's Championship after the first round with a scorching -7 under par followed by eight players including Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and Lee Westwood at -5 under par. Despite concerns about three sub-optimal greens the scoring conditions were quite good today. A chance of rain is forecast for the weekend.

Tiger Woods - Health Update

Tiger Woods: The world's number #1 ranked player is now chipping and putting his way toward the full swing phase of his recovery, yet it is still too soon to know when he will return to the PGA Tour. Here are excerpts from his web site as of May 5:

"My recovery from microdiscectomy surgery for a pinched nerve in my back is coming along, but it's a very slow process. I'm still sore. Not from the procedure itself but the incision. I just need to get back to my day-to-day activities, and that's it. One reassuring thing from my medical exam is I have zero arthritic changes whatsoever. I've kept myself in very good shape over the years, and it has paid off. We knew going into this procedure that it really helps to be strong, especially in my glutes and my abs. I was strong in both departments, and that helps with the recovery and rehab, and you're able to come back faster. As for my return to golf, I really don't know. I'm doing everything I can and listening to my doctors and working on a strength program, and then we just have to see how my back is. Some people heal up in three months, some people take four months, some people take longer. I just don't know."

The most notable exceptions include Tiger Woods (the 2013 champion) and Adan Scott, both of whom are recovering from surgery. Approximately half of the top 10 ranked players have yet to win in the 2013-2014 season while several lower ranked players such as Matt Every, J.B. Holmes and Matt Jones have taken home winners' trophies.

Champions Tour: With Fred Couples and Colin Montgomerie chasing him, Berhard Langer won his second Champions Tour event of the 2014 season and bolstered his Charles Schwab Cup lead. Langer had led by 5 shots while Couples and Montgomerie made their charge ... yet they simply ran our of holes. Langer held on to win by one stroke over a strong field.

LPGA: Stacey Lewis reasserted her strength on the LPGA tour by winning her first tournament of 2014 at the North Texas LPGA Shoot Out and moving back up to her world #2 ranking. Does this timely win position Lewis to re-claim the world's #1 LPGA ranking over Inbee Park in the weeks ahead? Lewis appears to be rounding into shape during the core of the 2014 season. By contrast, Park seems 'parked' in the status quo of finishing mostly in the Top 10 week to week, yet has not won in this season.

Wells Fargo Championship Update: Will Justin Rose (-8 under par), Phil Mickelson (-2 under par) or Rory McIlroy (+2 over par) capture their first PGA victory of the 2013-2014 season this week in North Carolina?
