Final 2014-2015 World Golf Rankings: Spieth #1, Day #2, McIlroy #3

The men's 2014-2015 wrap-around professional golf season witnessed some spectacular play and the emergence of a new "Big Three" which is likely to dominate the game for several years to come. Jordan Spieth's five-win season was historic, including two majors, the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup. Jason Day finally broke from the ranks of the best players not to have won a major to win the PGA Championship and play outstanding golf during the final two months of the year. And finally, Rory McIlroy, who entered the year with the world's #1 ranking, only to loose it largely due to a sprained ankle injury in late July.
What is the net-net for men's pro golf as we wrap-up the year: Men's professional golf is as strong as it has been since Woods-Mickelson-Singh trio dominated the game almost a decade ago. Moreover, the relative "youthfulness" of the new trio - Spieth, 22/Day 27/McIlroy 26 - bodes very well for years to come. Congradulations all-around. So who might be the break-through player next year? Send your picks to the Pro Golf Tour.

Tiger Woods Undergoes 2nd Back Surgery - Will Return to Play in 2016

Tiger Woods has undergone a second successful microdiscectomy surgery on his back. The first was done March 31, 2014. The surgery was performed late Wednesday in Park City, Utah, by neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Rich. Dr. Rich also performed the initial operation. "Tiger Woods underwent a microdiscectomy late on Sept. 16 at Park City Medical Center," Dr. Rich said. "With the upcoming offseason, the decision was made to remove a small disc fragment that was pinching his nerve. The microsurgery was a complete success, and he was discharged Thursday night." "This is certainly disappointing, but I'm a fighter," Woods said. "I've been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will."

Although a full recovery is expected, Tiger will be unable to play in the Frys.com Open, Bridgestone America's Golf Cup presented by Value in Mexico City and the Hero World Challenge at Albany in the Bahamas.  "I'd like to send my regrets to Frys and all those associated with the America's Golf Cup," Woods said. "Those were two events I was really looking forward to playing. I was ready to start the 2015-16 PGA TOUR season at Frys, and I was excited to join my good friend Matt [Kuchar] in Mexico City. "I will be attending my foundation-hosted Hero World Challenge but won't be able to play. I appreciate everything that Hero does for the Tiger Woods Foundation, and I have a great personal relationship with Mr. Munjal [vice chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp]. I look forward to being there to support my event." Share your comments about Tiger's rehabilitation and outlook for 2016 to the Pro Golf Tour.

US Wins Solheim Cup Over Team Europe 14 1/2 to 13 1/2

Juli Inkster, the queen of US ladies' golf, led Team USA to a stunning come from behind victory over Team Europe on Sunday to reclaim the Solheim Cup after a crushing defeat two years ago here in the US.  After preaching for nearly two years that she wanted a team with a blue-collar work ethic, U.S. captain Juli Inkster gave each of her players metal lunch buckets as gifts at week’s start that were painted red, white and blue.
Criticized for being more about style than substance, this American bunch delivered the latter in excess in Sunday’s unforgettable 14½ to 13½ comeback victory.
They did so transforming themselves in the image of their captain, and what a makeover it proved to be.
These American women took an exhilarating journey together going from record-breaking losers to record-setting winners. This was virtually the same group that lost to the Europeans in a Solheim Cup record rout two years ago. Alison Lee was the only addition to this team who wasn’t there for the 18-10 loss at Colorado Golf Club. With Sunday’s victory in Germany, the Americans avoided losing this event for a third consecutive time with the largest comeback in Solheim Cup history. Down 10-6 going into singles, they claimed the cup winning eight of Sunday’s 12 singles matches and halving another. They’re the first team in cup history to come back from being four or more points down going into the final session. So how does this win rank among the best of Solheim Cup victories over the decades? Share your thoughts here at the Pro Golf Tour.

Jason Day Wins the BMW Tourney, Leads the FedEx Cup and Rises to #1 World Ranking

Jason Day has been the hottest professional golfer over the past two months, rivaling Tiger Woods in his prime. This past weekend he had three remarkable accomplishments: First, he won the BMW Championship by 5 strokes. Second, he took a commanding point lead heading into this week's Tour Championship and FedEx Cup finale at Eastlake. And third, surpassed both Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth to capture the number 1 World Golf Ranking. And given his play ... he clearly deserves all the accolades.

This Sunday he can put the capstone on what has be an incredible season with by winning the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup. Is this within his reach? His recent level play would strongly suggest YES HE CAN. But will he? Send your comments to the Pro Golf Tour.

Day Holds a 2 Stroke Lead at -14 Under Park During Round 2 at the BMW

Jason Day continues his winning ways by leading of the BMW Championship in Chicago with an impressive -14 under par two strokes clear of American Daniel Berger as play continues in Round 2. A win tis Sunday could give Day an almost insurmountable point lead heading into the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta.

Rory McIlroy currently sits at -9 under par through 17 holes. Meanwhile Jordan Spieth, despite his struggles of late, is a respectable -7 under par after 13 holes and will surely make the cut this week. The question is whether or not Spieth can either win or finish in the top 3 to ensure a chance to 'control his own destiny' at the Tour Championship. Send your comments to the Pro Golf Center. Lydia Ko Captures Evian Championship - Inbee Park Looses Bid For "Official" Grand Slam

Eighteen year-old Lydia Ko proved she is the future of ladies' golf by capturing the Evian "Major" Championship in France this past weekend. Ko finished at -16 under par six strokes better than her next rival American Lexi Thompson who came in at -10 under par. Ko's future is very bright indeed and at a mere 18 years of age she is poised to be the Tiger Woods for many years to come.

Victory, and specifically an official career Grand Slam, was not in the cards for South Korea's Inbee Park who completed the tournament at -5 under par some 11 strokes behind Ko. Park is a true superstar in her own right and agruable one of the most gifted ladies to play professional golf. Despite the heartache of loosing her quest for a career Grand Slam, Park is likely to win the Evian - as a Major - in the coming years. She is simply too good. So what is next for both Ko and Park? Surely a healthy and entertaining rivalry which will elevate the level of ladies' play for many seasons. Share your thoughts with the Pro Golf Tour.

Evian Championship: Inbee Park Seeks the Ladies Career Grand Slam in France

Perched on the foothills of the French Alps overlooking Lake Geneva South Korea's Inbee Park began her quest to silence the skeptics and complete the LPGA Grand Slam in Evian, France. There are two key facts to keep in mind this week: First, the Evian Championship was elevated to "Major Championship" status this year by the LPGA - making it the fifth major on the ladies' tour. Second, Park has already won the Evian tournament ... however, BEFORE it was classified as a Major.

Park, undoubtedly one of the most gifted lady golfers in many years, faces some still competition. After Round 1 Mi-Hyang Lee from South Korea and America's Lexi Thompson are co-leaders at -5 under par. Park finished her first round at +1 over par and is surely in striking range with 3 rounds to play. What are Park's chances of taking home the Evian trophy and more importantly validating that she has truly won a career grand slam? Send your thoughts to the Pro Golf Tour. Rickie Fowler Wins Deutsche Bank Championship - Moves to #3 in the FedEx Cup Rankings

Rickie Fowler shot a final round -3 under par to defeat Hendrik Stenson by one stroke to finish at -15 under par at the Deutsche Bank tournament this Labor Day weekend.  This win moved Fowler into 3rd place in the FedEx Cup rankings and number 5 in the World Golf Rankings.

Fowler is undoubtedly having the best season of his young career and hope to finish strong at the BMW Championship, the Tour Championship and the President's Cup just around the corner. With Jordan Spieth having missed yet another cut, Jason Day failed to bolster his FedEx Cup lead by finishing T12 at -6 under par, but still holds the lead. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy did not do himself any favors by finishing T28 at -3 under par. So which player has the advantage heading into the BMW Championship in Chicago? Deutsche Bank Update: Hoffman Leads by 3 - Spieth at Risk of Missing Another Cut

With second round play still in-progress American Charlie Hoffman shot an incredible -8 under par today to finish at -12 under par three strokes ahead of Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge sitting at -9 under par. Four players are tied at -8 under par including Americans Rickie Fowler, reigning Players champion, and Zach Johnson, reigning Open Championship winner. Australia's Jason Day is still on the course holding steady at -6 under par. Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy is also on the course at +1 over par.

So where is Jordan Spieth? Good question. Spieth is currently at +4 over par and pending divine intervention is likely to miss his second cut - his second FedEx Cup playoff cut - in a row. While not  a matter of life and death, America's golden boy and presumed 2015 Player of the Year is at serious risk of loosing any viable chance of winning the FedEx Cup after leading in the point race most of this year. So what is causing Spieth so much trouble the past two weeks? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour ... and if your are a Spieth fan, pray for a miracle and fast.

Deutsche Bank Championship: Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge Takes the Round 1 Lead

Brendon de Jonge shot -6 under par to take a two stroke lead after the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship outside of Boston. This tournament is the second leg of the four-week long FedEx Cup playoffs. Jason Day finished strong at -3 under par following his win at the Barclays last week who currently sits atop the FedEx Cup rankings just ahead of Jordan Spieth.

Meanwhile, the world's number ranked Rory McIlroy shot -1 under par in Round 1. McIlroy is ranked 15th in the race for the FedEx Cup. And Player of the Year Candidate Jordan Spieth raised eyebrows with another poor performance shooting +4 over par following last week's missed cut. Which player(s) have the edge going into Round 2? I would not be surprised to see Jason Day , once again, move up the leaderboard. Share your comments here at the Pro Golf Tour.

World Golf Rankings - McIlroy, Spieth and Day in Virtual Tie for Number 1 Ranking

The latest World Golf Rankings show Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day in a virtual ties for the number 1 male golfer in the world. Day's win at last week's Barclay tournament moved him within striking distance of McIlroy and Spieth. These figures reinforce the notion that we now truly have a pre-emininent "threesome" vying week in and week out for the top position.

A win at the Deutche Bank Championship could put Jason Day in the global poll position for the first time in his distinguished career. McIlroy, Spieth and Day have dominated men's golf this past year and likely for years to come. The great unknown is the possibility of a major season-ending injury for any of these players - which we truly hope will not happen.
