Wyndham Championship: Round 2 Update - Tiger Still in the Hunt at -7 Under Par

American Tom Hoge leads the Wyndham Championship half way into the second round at -11 under par one stroke better than 2016 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III who finished at -10 under par. The critical question for this tournament is two-fold: Who will make it into the FedEx Cup playoffs? And second, for those already assured a spot in the magic 125 heading into the Barclay's tournament, how much will they improve their FedEx Cup point total?

This we know for sure: Barring a major collapse Tiger Woods, currently sitting at -7 under par with nine holes to play will move into Round 3. Tiger needs to either win or place solo second place to move into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Being four strokes off the lead with two rounds to play gives him plenty of time to catch the leaders. Tiger in the Hunt at the Wyndham Championship (Round 1 Leaderboard)

Tiger Woods showed some of his classic golf techniques today shooting a -6 under par in the opening round of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. This is his first time playing in this event and is a great opportunity to play some low stress golf while many of the top-ranked golfers take a week of rest prior to the post-season. Woods finished two strokes off the first round lead held by Erik Compton and William McGrit at -8 under par.

PGA Championship: Jason Day Wins First Major - Sets Scoring Record

Australia's Jason day won the PGA Championship by three strokes over Jordan Spieth to capture his first major win. Twenty-seven year-old Day has long been thought to be one of the world's best golfers not to have won a major title - until yesterday. His stunning display of golf shots set a major championship scoring record ending at -20 under par on a very challenging course, Whistling Straits. Day has moved to #3 in the official world golf ranking.

Fighting back tears of joy and relief Day graciously accepted the Wanamaker Trophy in front of thousands of cheering fans. What does the future hold for Jason Day. Well, this writer believes there are likely several more major wins in his future. Soon Day will compete in the FedEx Cup playoffs and lead the President's Cup team this October in South Korea. PGA Championship: Round 3 Leaderboard (Play in-progress)

With the leading players still to tee-off for Round 3 there has been some good scoring at Whistling Straits so far today. Phil Mickelson carded a -6 under par to put himself back in contention.Meanwhile, Matt Jones, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth have yet to begin play. This course is notorious for its afternoon wind off of Lake Michigan could could make conditions for the players with later tee times more challenging.

Rory McIlroy is currently T16 at the 11th hole shooting -3 under par thus far. But all eyes will shortly turn to Jones, Day and Spieth as they seek to take the lead going into Sunday's final round. FedEx Cup: Tiger Woods to Play in Next Week's Wyndham Championship

Tiger Woods has missed the cut at both this year's Open Championship and now the PGA Championship at Whitsling Straits. This is the first time is many years that Tiger has not played the weekend at two majors in a single season. Tiger is currently ranked 186th in FedEx Cup points and only the top 125 ranked players by FedEx Cup points are invited to the post-season playoff.

Facing the challenge of not playing until the beginning of the 2016 year-round PGA Tour beginning in October at the Frye's Championship Woods has decided for the first time to play in next week's Wyndham tournament in North Carolina in the hope of gaining enough FedEx Cup points needed to make the post-season playoffs. He has reportedly never played the course where the Wyndham Championship wil be held, however, this course is said not to demand alot of driving - Tiger's weak point this year. The Golf Channel's David Duval stated yesterday that he played this same course with a three-wood and no driver. This fact, along with the likelihood that many of the top-ranked players will take the week off may play to Tiger's chances to playing in a low pressure, kinder, gentler field as he seeks to breath new life into his game. PGA Championship: Five Tied for the Lead at -7 Under Par (Round 3 play in-progress)

David Lingmerth, Russel Henley, Dustin Johnson, Matt Jones and Jason Day currently lead Round 3 of the PGA Championship at -7 under par with afternoon play still in-progress. Jordan Spieth shot -5 under par today to finish at -6 under par tied for 4th place.

Windy conditions prevail in the afternoon making scoring much more challenging. Elsewhere Rory McIlroy shot a -1 under par to finish at -2 under par while Zach Johnson and Tiger Woods will both miss the cut - each finishing at a disappointing +3 over par.
