Rory McIlroy Named European Tour "2015 Player of the Year"

Rory McIlroy has been named Golfer of the Year,  receiving the honor for the second straight year and third time since 2012. McIlroy won three times this year on the European Tour,  including a victory at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship that allowed him to successfully defend his Race to Dubai title.
He earned the award over a list of nominees that included Justin Rose, Branden Grace,  Andy Sullivan, Anirban Lahiri and Danny Willett. "It is a huge honor for me to be named European Tour Golfer of the Year again," McIlroy said. "I feel very proud to have won this prestigious award for the third time - it is always special, no matter how often, to be recognized this way." McIlroy got off to a strong start with a convincing victory at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic  in February, and his WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship title counted as a win on both the  PGA Tour and the European Tour. Shortly thereafter, his season was derailed by an ill-timed soccer injury that forced him to miss title defenses at both the Open Championship and the  WGC Bridgestone Invitational match-play. McIlroy returned to action at the PGA Championship, and he closed with three top-12 finishes across the Finals series, successfully holding off Willett and Sullivan at the season's final event. He closed his European Tour campaign with eight top-10 finishes in 12 starts, including three wins. What will McIlroy's performance be in next year's European Tour? Franklin Templeton Shootout - Team of Berger and Hoffman Take the Lead

Now that the PGA and European PGA are officially on Christmas break the Franklin Templeton Shootout offers some rather fun and relaxing year-end golf while many of the 'big names' re-charge their batteries, re-tools their club selections, renew sponsor agreements hone their schedules for 2016.
Next calendar year will be a very special year for professional golf - for the men and ladies. In addition to a highly 'compressed' schedule the professional tours need to fit in golf's prestigious return to the Olympics, play the usual four majors and prepare for the Ryder Cup. Any one of these items is a herculian task. Now try fitting them all into a single season. Oh, and did I mention the highly touted ban on 'anchored' putting ...not an equipment policy, rather a physical-behavioral policy regarding how to hold and place the putter ... regardless of its length. What are your predictions for 2016?  Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour:

Bubba Watson Wins Tiger Wood's Hero World Challenge by 3 Strokes Over Patrick Reed

Bubba Watson once said that if he ever amassed 10 victories he’d retire from professional golf, but on Sunday following his three-stroke victory at the Hero World Challenge, he clarified that statement. The World Challenge is Watson’s ninth victory as a professional, although the event does not count as an official PGA Tour victory.
Watson was asked if he wins next week’s Thailand Golf Championship, will he follow through on his retirement plans? “Ten U.S. victories,” he explained. “I don’t count this as a PGA Tour victory. It counts as a victory. It’s very big for my career personally, but I don’t see it as 10.” The World Challenge is Watson’s ninth victory as a professional, although the event does not count as an official PGA Tour win. Spieth and Haas Co-Lead the Hero Wolrd Challenge in the Bahamas

Having just returned from Sydney, Australia Jordan Spieth kick started his title defense at the Hero World Challenge with a hole-in-one on the par-3 second hole Thursday at Albany. That eagle was part of a 5-under 67 that has him one stroke off the first-round lead.
"It was a 6‑iron, like 175ish (yards) playing about 10 yards further with the wind so I needed to take a little off of it," Spieth said. "Absolutely flushed it right at the hole and didn't think it went in. I started walking because balls have been sticking on the green so I thought it just stuck, but I guess it just crept forward that extra two feet. With very few people watching, you don't know if it's really close or in when they cheer and then you look up and the ball disappeared." Players were drenched in sweat walking off the course, a layout with which they are still trying to familiarize themselves. Spieth won this event last year by 10 strokes, with a tournament-record 26-under total. But that was at Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Fla. Nonetheless, he expects another shootout this week. "I'm very surprised that no one's lower than 6 under," he said, "but just gets a little tricky with the small greens, I guess." As for that ace, Spieth has some friends on hand and he said he would celebrate - and share the wealth. "When you come to the Bahamas, that's probably going to get pretty expensive out here," Spieth said. "But cool start to the day." What are Spieth's chances going into the weekend with Tiger Wood's looking on? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour.

Australian Open: Matt Jones Wins by One Stroke Over Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott

Matt Jones talked about the ''stress and anxious moments'' during his final round at the Australian Open on Sunday.
Jones overcame a bogey, a double bogey and a triple bogey on the front nine Sunday to escape with a one-stroke victory in the 100th Australian Open after shooting a 2-over 73. Jones, who led defending champion Jordan Spieth by three strokes to begin the day, finished with a 72-hole total of 8-under 276. Adam Scott, who shot 65 on The Australian Golf Club course Sunday, and Spieth, who had a 71 and missed an eagle attempt on the 18th that could have forced a playoff, were tied for second. Australian veteran Rod Pampling, who had a course-record 61, was fourth, two strokes behind Jones. Jones, Pampling, Scott and Spieth were frequently tied for the lead over the final hour, but a birdie on the 16th put the Australian a stroke clear. Jones' round included holing a bunker shot on the 12th hole for par. There was even drama at the end for the Australian, who dropped his club after hitting his third shot on the par-5 18th, thinking it had gone in the water. The ball landed safely on the green, however, and after being too cautious with his first putt, he holed a 3-footer for par that nearly lipped out. Race to Dubai: Rory McIlroy Still in the Driver's Seat to Win It All

Andy Sullivan is in the lead at the season finale and Rory McIlroy is in the driver’s seat for the season-long Race to Dubai.  Grillo’s 64.
Already a winner in his rookie season on the PGA Tour, Grillo had eight birdies and no bogeys in the second round – and he did it playing alongside McIlroy. It was the low round of the day. There were four 65’s posted on Friday, including by Reed and Schwartzel. Reed’s round consisted of nine birdies and two bogeys – five birdies over his final six holes. Schwartzel’s was more clean: seven birdies, no bogeys. There are lots of heavyweights in the tournament mix, but the primary focus is still on world No. 3 McIlroy. His goal at the start of the week was simple: Win the event to win the Race. And, after two rounds in Dubai, he’s in position to do that. Can he close out the final two to put a positive spin on the season?  Send your pick's to the Pro Golf Tour.

Graeme McDowell Wins OHL Mayakoba Classic in Play-off

Given a second chance to win th OHL Classic at Mayakoba, Norther Ireland's Graeme McDowell took dead aim and did not falter. Describing his final approach as one of the best 5-irons he has ever hit, McDowell carved a shot from 215 yards to within 3 feet on the first playoff hole. The subsequent putt gave him a victory over Russell Knox and Jason Bohn, his first PGA Tour win in nearly three years and a much-needed highlight to end what has been an otherwise disastrous year inside the ropes. McDowell entered this week at No. 85 in the world rankings, 70 spots below where he stood in January.
His exempt status that dates back to his win at the 2010 U.S. Open was set to expire at the end of this season, and he was facing the prospect of missing the Masters for the first time since 2008. Thanks to one final birdie, McDowell can now book trips to Kapalua and Augusta National next year, and his PGA Tour credential is good until 2018. McDowell said his focus shifted this year to his wife and 1-year-old daughter, a welcome change but one that admittedly took a toll on his game. Without a win since the 2013 RBC Heritage, the 36-year-old found himself in the midst of a candid self-examination. “There were multiple times during the year where I was losing belief in myself, where you’re asking yourself questions like, ‘Am I good enough anymore? Am I finished with this game? Do I have long left?’ Questions like that,” McDowell said. “When you’re out there for five and a half hours on the golf course and not playing well, these are the types of questions you ask yourself. OHL Mayakoba Classic: Graeme McDowell Leads By 2 Strokes After The 2nd Round

Back on the PGA Tour Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell leads the field by two stroke at -12 under par after Round 2.
Stanford grad's Patrick Rogers currently sits in third place at -9 under par. A win would surely boost McDowell's World Golf Ranking. For Rogers, a win, any win in the new 2015-2016 wrap-around season would give Rogers, now in his first full year on the PGA Tour significant statue on the pro tour. But Rodgers, 23, is off to a strong start in his first full season, with three straight top-20 finishes entering this week’s tournament. He appears in position to continue that streak in Mexico, having followed an opening 67 with a 5-under 66. Rodgers took advantage of the calm conditions afforded to the morning’s first threesome, and at 9 under he trails Graeme McDowell  by three shots. Can McDowell maintain his momentum going into the weekend? And just when might Rogers break through to capture his first PGA title? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour. Wilson Staff Introduces New D200 Irons - Will They Improve Your Game?

Speed Sole Technology creates a thin face-to-sole transition which allows the iron face to flex, especially lower where most impacts occurHeel and toe weight pods provide a larger sweet spot and more forgivenessThe pods visually demonstrate the weight's positioning on the perimeter of the club headRight Light Technology creates a balanced, solid-feeling club, allowing Distance players to swing faster with the same effort. And, Recoil Technology optimizes the spring effect and promotes the most efficient energy transfer to maximize ball speed and reduce ball dispersion.
The D200 produces a high, soft flight that can hold any green; very solid from thicker rough and other trouble lies; it’s up to the challenge when your situation calls for a three-quarter shot or a knockdown. One of the highest-rated models; thin and toe shots don’t lose much, and they go where they’re aimed; other misses find a way to get on the green; not a lot of unintentional curving. One of the D200’s strongest attributes; they’re green-hitting machines; decent strikes travel as expected; plenty of distance when flushed, about a half club longer than many testers’ current sticks. They’re light, but you can still tell where the clubhead is at all times; smooth through the ball with some life at impact; no sensation of twisting or turning, even in the rough. At address, the thick topline hides a large cavity; for some guys, the brushed chrome harks back to classic Wilson irons; naturally square setup and slight offset are easy to aim. Charles Schwab Cup: Langer Wins for the Third Time in Playoff Against Andrade

He was coming off one of the great seasons in the history of the Champions Tour. He had won five times, including two major championships with virtuoso performances, and strung together enough records to reach from here to his native Germany. Langer also became a multiple winner of the coveted Schwab Cup, joining an elite group by adding a victory in 2014 to the one four years earlier.
If an encore seemed a difficult task, it didn’t faze Langer. What he produced this year, culminating Sunday with an unprecedented third Schwab Cup, was remarkable in a different way. A year ago, Langer was the frontrunner. This year, he proved equally adept at being the pursuer. Langer lost a playoff to Billy Andrade at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship but he had already done enough through 54 holes to put a hammerlock on the big prize, another Charles Schwab Cup and the bonus $1 million annuity that goes with it. Will Langer’s Cup runneth over next year? Is that the next encore? “I haven't thought about goals yet, but they're pretty similar to this year,” said Langer, 58. “You want to win tournaments, you want to win majors, you want to win this (the Charles Schwab Cup), Player of the Year, money list. “There are plenty of things to play for. It's going to get harder and harder as the years go by, I think, as I get older and the younger guys are coming up, but there are always exceptions. There are always guys that stand out like Hale Irwin and Tom Watson and a couple others, and hopefully I'll be one of those.” The playoff was anti-climactic as it related to the Schwab Cup. Andrade shot a final-round 64 and matched Langer, who shot 67, with a 14-under 266 total. It was Andrade’s third victory of the season. A lipped-out eagle putt on the 72nd hole prevented Langer from winning outright before Andrade won with a birdie four on the first playoff hole. Charles Schwab Cup Championship Begins - Can Monty Take Home the Trophy?

The 2015 Champions Tour comes to a climax this weekend at the Charles Schwab Cup tournament at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, AZ. Colin Montegomery holds a slim lead over Jeff Maggart and Bernhard Langer.
Surrounded by the rugged Sonoran Desert, the 6,929-yard Cochise golf course is a Scottsdale, Arizona golf course that demands thoughtfulness and strategy in how one approaches it. Its signature holes are three of the finest "risk/reward" par-fives to be found anywhere. Throughout Cochise golf course, approach shots require precision shot-making and contours of greens will challenge the deftest touch. Unique in the Southwest, it features a double, island green shared by the par-three seventh and the par-five fifteenth hole. According to Jack Nicklaus, Cochise is one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world. So which player has the edge on this 6,915 yard dessert course which will require accuracy off the tee and the ability to stick wedge shots close to the pin on fast greens and take home the $440,000 winner's prize? European Tour: Dubuisson Wins Turkish Open as McIlroy Holds Race to Dubai Lead

While France's Victor Dubuisson won the European Tour's Turkish Open at -22 under par, Rory McIlroy still holds the point led in the European Tour's acclaimed Race to Dubai.  Dubuisson was two shots behind Van Zyl as he stood on the 15th tee but he repeated his feat of 2013 when he also birdied the 15th, 17th and 18th to win his maiden European Tour title. And the 25 year old admitted it took a "perfect" approach into the par five last to secure his closing birdie and with it a second Turkish Airlines Open title. "On 18, I was under the presumption that Jaco would make birdie," he said. "He hit the ball so straight that 18 wouldn't be a problem for him. "I just tried to hit a big drive because last week and this week, I was driving okay but not very long. So on this hole I had to take my chance. "I hit a really big drive, took advantage of the good bounce, and then I had 193 yards to the hole. The wind was helping a little bit and it would normally be a good seven or a little six. I decided to hit an eight iron because of the pressure and I knew I had to land just on the beginning of the left side of the green to keep it on. "This was just the perfect shot."
Meanwhile, despite only playing 10 European Tour events this year Rory McIlroy continues to hold onto first place leader over England's Danny Willett in the Race to Dubai. Race to Dubai: Jacob Van Zyl Leads Turkish Open By Two Strokes After Second Round

Jaco Van Zyl kept hold of his lead at -14 under par during the second round of the Turkish Airlines Open but a strong chasing pack made sure it was all to play for going into the weekend at The Montgomerie Maxx Royal. The South African opened with a 61 on Thursday and looked like he was going to blow the field away in the second round as he established a seven shot lead just after the turn. But water trouble on the fourth and eighth saw him register his first two bogeys of the week and left the door open for Richard Bland and Chris Wood get within two shots.
Van Zyl's 14 under total equalled the 36-hole record set by Ian Poulter last year but he will still have a lot of work to do to win his first European Tour title with Race to Dubai leader Rory McIlroy and 2013 champion here Victor Dubuisson both in the top ten. Two-time 2015 winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat, two-time Order of Merit winner Lee Westwood and former US Open champion Graeme McDowell are also within five shots of the leader but Van Zyl is enjoying leading from the front. Race to Dubai points leader Rory McIlroy is 4 strokes back at -10 under par. Can Van Zyl hold on to his lead through the weekend? Or will Richard Bland or Chris Wood - both at -12 under par two strokes back make a move to overcome the Swed? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour.

Race to Dubai: Van Zyl Leads the Turkish Open - McIlroy 6 Strokes Back

Jaco Van Zyl carded a stunning opening 61 to take a three shot lead at the Turkish Airlines Open as The Final Series got under way in Antalya. Race to Dubai points leader Rory McIlroy finds himself 6 strokes from the lead at -5 under par. Can Rory capture the Turkish Open title with two strong final rounds? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour/
The Montgomerie Maxx Royal was hosting the first of the four closing tournaments of The Race to Dubai and Van Zyl bettered the low round record of 62 held by RaphaĂ«l Jacquelin, although his achievement will not go in the record books as preferred lies were in play due to recent heavy rain. The South African recorded nine birdies and an eagle to open up an advantage over Lee Westwood who carded eight birdies of his own to sit alone in second. Van Zyl opened with a birdie and picked up further shots on the fourth, fifth and seventh before coming home in 30. The 36 year old eagled the 11th and then made birdies on five of his final six holes to take control after round one. He has recorded four top tens this year but has yet to claim a European Tour title and was delighted to shoot what he described as one of the best rounds of his life. So can Rory McIlrory stage a comeback in the remaining rounds and hold onto his Race to Dubai point lead? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour.

Lydia Ko Wins the Taiwan Championship - Re-Gains the World's #1 LPGA Ranking

The 18-year-old New Zealander holed a 30-yard pitch for eagle on the par-5 12th and finished with a 7-under 65 in sunny, breezy conditions at Miramar for a nine-stroke victory. Ko took the top spot in the world from South Korea's Inbee Park with her 5th LPGA victory this year and the 10th of her career. Park skipped her title defense at Miramar to play in a Korea LPGA event, where she tied for second Sunday. ''I think winning and playing well at an event is the top priority,'' Ko said. ''And then if you get the extra bonus with it, it's even better. ... The winning part is probably the most memorable. I haven't really thought about being world No. 1 again.''

Ko also took the top spot from Park with a second-place tie in the season-opening event in Florida. Park moved back in front with her major victory in the Women's PGA Championship in June in New York. ''In Ocala, I was disappointed in the way I finished,'' Ko said. ''Coming tied second and being world No. 1, I think it's a little different right now. I think I played really consistently well the last couple weeks, so I think it's something we can all celebrate and I want to share this with my whole team.'' Grillo Wins the Frys.com Tourney as Jason Day Re-Captures World's #1 Ranking

Emiliano Grillo Look, this guy was already the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year before he won the Frys.com Open. Now he has cemented his long-term status, not to mention a spot in the OWGR top 50, and will be teeing it up next to friendly rival Jprdan Spieth at several big events next year. This is only the first of many for the Argentinian. Grillo became the first pro to win his first start as a PGA TOUR member since Russell Henley accomplished the feat at the Sony Open in 2013. He's the first rookie to win since Nick Taylor won last year's Sanderson Farms Championship.

Jason Day has once again ascended to the top of the world rankings, but this time he did it without hitting a shot. Thanks to the divisor math involved in the Official World Golf Ranking, Day overtook Jordan Spieth for the No. 1 spot even though neither of them played last week. This marks Day's second time on top, and it ends another brief reign for Spieth, who became No. 1 with his season-ending Topur Championship win last month. Emiliano Grillo jumped from No. 72 to No. 36 thanks to his win at the Frys.com Open, his second win in the last three weeks. So what does the future hold for the young Argentinian? Presidents Cup - Recap: Team USA Wins By a Single Point - 15 1/2 to 14 1/2

The US extended its Presidents Cup winning record to 9-to-1 with a one point victory over the International Team in Incheon, South Korea. The Presidents Cup came down to the final hole of the final match. Bill Haas, the son of U.S. Captain Jay Haas, clinched the deciding point, giving a fitting ending to a dramatic day that saw the International Team make a late push for the Cup. The two teams earned six points apiece on Sunday, allowing the U.S. to hang on to its one-point lead. Here's a look at the 12 singles matches on the Presidents Cup's final day.
When U.S. captain Jay Hass laid out his Sunday singles plan, he had a general idea where each player would go – early, middle or late – with little or no regard for the potential situations each player might face. With his position last in the lineup, Haas’ son, Bill, figured the outcome of the Presidents Cup would have already been decided when he completed his match. So does this win for Team USA bode well for their performance in the 2016 Ryder Cup? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour.

Presidents Cup: International Team Storms Back - US Holds Slim 5 1/2 to 4 1/2 Lead

The International Team had its best day at The Presidents Cup in eight years, winning 3.5 points in Friday's four-balls to create some much-needed drama going into the weekend at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea. The 3.5 points were the most earned by the Internationals in any one team session since they claimed 4.5 points on Day Two (also four-balls) in 2007 at The Royal Montreal Golf Club. As a result, the U.S. leads by just a single point, 5.5 to 4.5, going into Saturday's double session, which starts with four foursomes matches.Louis Oosthuizen-Branden Grace (INT’L) def. Dustin Johnson-Jordan Spieth (USA), 4 & 3: Price’s decision to send out his only winning foursomes pairing against the powerhouse American duo.
The key moment came at the eighth hole after Johnson had put the U.S. 1 up with a birdie at the seventh. Oosthuizen responded by rolling in a monster putt from 72 feet off the green at the eighth to square the match. Grace then won the next two holes with birdies and the Internationals never trailed after that. Meanwhile, Spieth – the recent FedExCup champ and world’s top-ranked player – could not get untracked. He struggled in all facets and seemed out of sorts all day. “One of the worst rounds of golf I’ve felt over the ball in a long time,” Spieth said. “… DJ counts on me to keep the ball in play and be consistent. I didn’t do that to free him up to play his game. You know, that was Merry Christmas to them.” What does this episode portend for the Round 3 matches? Send your comments with the Pro Golf Tour.

Presidents Cup - Update: Team USA Takes a 4-to-1 Lead After the Round 1 Foursomes

Perhaps the U.S. dominance in Thursday’s foursomes matches at The Presidents Cup can be reflected by the simplest of gestures: A firm handshake. That’s how Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson, the two senior players on America’s 12-man roster, celebrated their good shots against the International duo of Jason Day and Steven Bowditch at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea.
No high-fives, no wild displays of exuberance, the kind of which Mickelson had two years ago with his most recent Presidents Cup partner, Keegan Bradley. Johnson is more low-keyed, less apt to show his emotions. “I’m a pretty mellow guy out there,” Johnson admitted, before adding, “I thrive with Jason Dufner.” So after U.S. Captain Jay Haas decided to partner Mickelson with Johnson for the first time in their Presidents Cup/Ryder Cup careers, the two took it down a notch. “Zach’s never really been one to overly celebrate,” Mickelson explained. “So we came up with just a very subdued handshake to celebrate our successes.” Which team has the edge for the Friday-Round 2 Four-Ball matches? Presidents Cup Week is Here - Players to Test the South Korea Jack Nicklaus Course

The South Korea Jack Nicklaus Golf Course has been readied and the players are practicing for the 2015 Presidents Cup where the US team plays the Rest of World (minus Europe). The US enjoys an 8-1 win/loss record since the Presidents Cup was inaugurated in 1994. Structure of the matches will be reduced from 34 total points to 30, with five four-ball and five foursome matches on Thursday/Friday, versus six and six; and four four-ball and four foursome matches on Saturday, versus five and five.

The first four Presidents Cup events (1994, 1996, 1998, 2000) were played with a total of 32 matches. Each player will be required to participate in two of the first four sessions, with every player competing in the Sunday singles.  In the past, team members were required to play in at least three of the four four-ball/foursome segments. The order of the matches for Thursday and Friday will be determined by the host team’s captain, versus being set forth in the competition agreement. In this scenario for 2015, Captain Price can determine which format – four-ball or foursomes – will be played on Thursday and Friday. Finally, foursome, four-ball and singles matches that are all-square after 18 holes are determined to be a draw, with each team receiving a half point.  Previously, singles matches that were all square after 18 holes were extended to sudden death to determine the winner until one team had enough points to win The Presidents Cup. So which team has the edge leading into this year's tournament? Send your comments with the Pro Golf Tour.

Today the PGA Tour named Jordan Spieth as the PGA TOUR Player of the Year and Jack Nicklaus Award recipient, and Daniel Berger as PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, as voted by the TOUR’s membership for the 2014-15 season. PGA TOUR members who played in at least 15 official money events this past season were eligible to vote. The balloting process ended on October 1. The 22-year-old Spieth became the youngest PGA TOUR Player of the Year since Tiger Woods won the award at the age of 21 in 1997.

“The PGA TOUR enjoyed a sensational season from every perspective as our young stars shone brighter than ever before, but none brighter than the PGA TOUR Player of the Year Jordan Spieth,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “He captivated us throughout a memorable year that included the FedExCup and five victories, highlighted by two major championships. And the sportsmanship he displayed in both victory and defeat was a stirring indication of the role model and ambassador he has become in a very short period of time.” One of nine PGA TOUR rookies who advanced to the FedExCup Playoffs, Berger, 22, earned his spot as the only rookie at the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola after a runner-up finish in the penultimate Playoffs event, the BMW Championship. Final 2014-2015 World Golf Rankings: Spieth #1, Day #2, McIlroy #3

The men's 2014-2015 wrap-around professional golf season witnessed some spectacular play and the emergence of a new "Big Three" which is likely to dominate the game for several years to come. Jordan Spieth's five-win season was historic, including two majors, the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup. Jason Day finally broke from the ranks of the best players not to have won a major to win the PGA Championship and play outstanding golf during the final two months of the year. And finally, Rory McIlroy, who entered the year with the world's #1 ranking, only to loose it largely due to a sprained ankle injury in late July.
What is the net-net for men's pro golf as we wrap-up the year: Men's professional golf is as strong as it has been since Woods-Mickelson-Singh trio dominated the game almost a decade ago. Moreover, the relative "youthfulness" of the new trio - Spieth, 22/Day 27/McIlroy 26 - bodes very well for years to come. Congradulations all-around. So who might be the break-through player next year? Send your picks to the Pro Golf Tour.

Tiger Woods Undergoes 2nd Back Surgery - Will Return to Play in 2016

Tiger Woods has undergone a second successful microdiscectomy surgery on his back. The first was done March 31, 2014. The surgery was performed late Wednesday in Park City, Utah, by neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Rich. Dr. Rich also performed the initial operation. "Tiger Woods underwent a microdiscectomy late on Sept. 16 at Park City Medical Center," Dr. Rich said. "With the upcoming offseason, the decision was made to remove a small disc fragment that was pinching his nerve. The microsurgery was a complete success, and he was discharged Thursday night." "This is certainly disappointing, but I'm a fighter," Woods said. "I've been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will."

Although a full recovery is expected, Tiger will be unable to play in the Frys.com Open, Bridgestone America's Golf Cup presented by Value in Mexico City and the Hero World Challenge at Albany in the Bahamas.  "I'd like to send my regrets to Frys and all those associated with the America's Golf Cup," Woods said. "Those were two events I was really looking forward to playing. I was ready to start the 2015-16 PGA TOUR season at Frys, and I was excited to join my good friend Matt [Kuchar] in Mexico City. "I will be attending my foundation-hosted Hero World Challenge but won't be able to play. I appreciate everything that Hero does for the Tiger Woods Foundation, and I have a great personal relationship with Mr. Munjal [vice chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp]. I look forward to being there to support my event." Share your comments about Tiger's rehabilitation and outlook for 2016 to the Pro Golf Tour.

US Wins Solheim Cup Over Team Europe 14 1/2 to 13 1/2

Juli Inkster, the queen of US ladies' golf, led Team USA to a stunning come from behind victory over Team Europe on Sunday to reclaim the Solheim Cup after a crushing defeat two years ago here in the US.  After preaching for nearly two years that she wanted a team with a blue-collar work ethic, U.S. captain Juli Inkster gave each of her players metal lunch buckets as gifts at week’s start that were painted red, white and blue.
Criticized for being more about style than substance, this American bunch delivered the latter in excess in Sunday’s unforgettable 14½ to 13½ comeback victory.
They did so transforming themselves in the image of their captain, and what a makeover it proved to be.
These American women took an exhilarating journey together going from record-breaking losers to record-setting winners. This was virtually the same group that lost to the Europeans in a Solheim Cup record rout two years ago. Alison Lee was the only addition to this team who wasn’t there for the 18-10 loss at Colorado Golf Club. With Sunday’s victory in Germany, the Americans avoided losing this event for a third consecutive time with the largest comeback in Solheim Cup history. Down 10-6 going into singles, they claimed the cup winning eight of Sunday’s 12 singles matches and halving another. They’re the first team in cup history to come back from being four or more points down going into the final session. So how does this win rank among the best of Solheim Cup victories over the decades? Share your thoughts here at the Pro Golf Tour.

Jason Day Wins the BMW Tourney, Leads the FedEx Cup and Rises to #1 World Ranking

Jason Day has been the hottest professional golfer over the past two months, rivaling Tiger Woods in his prime. This past weekend he had three remarkable accomplishments: First, he won the BMW Championship by 5 strokes. Second, he took a commanding point lead heading into this week's Tour Championship and FedEx Cup finale at Eastlake. And third, surpassed both Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth to capture the number 1 World Golf Ranking. And given his play ... he clearly deserves all the accolades.

This Sunday he can put the capstone on what has be an incredible season with by winning the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup. Is this within his reach? His recent level play would strongly suggest YES HE CAN. But will he? Send your comments to the Pro Golf Tour.

Day Holds a 2 Stroke Lead at -14 Under Park During Round 2 at the BMW

Jason Day continues his winning ways by leading of the BMW Championship in Chicago with an impressive -14 under par two strokes clear of American Daniel Berger as play continues in Round 2. A win tis Sunday could give Day an almost insurmountable point lead heading into the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta.

Rory McIlroy currently sits at -9 under par through 17 holes. Meanwhile Jordan Spieth, despite his struggles of late, is a respectable -7 under par after 13 holes and will surely make the cut this week. The question is whether or not Spieth can either win or finish in the top 3 to ensure a chance to 'control his own destiny' at the Tour Championship. Send your comments to the Pro Golf Center. Lydia Ko Captures Evian Championship - Inbee Park Looses Bid For "Official" Grand Slam

Eighteen year-old Lydia Ko proved she is the future of ladies' golf by capturing the Evian "Major" Championship in France this past weekend. Ko finished at -16 under par six strokes better than her next rival American Lexi Thompson who came in at -10 under par. Ko's future is very bright indeed and at a mere 18 years of age she is poised to be the Tiger Woods for many years to come.

Victory, and specifically an official career Grand Slam, was not in the cards for South Korea's Inbee Park who completed the tournament at -5 under par some 11 strokes behind Ko. Park is a true superstar in her own right and agruable one of the most gifted ladies to play professional golf. Despite the heartache of loosing her quest for a career Grand Slam, Park is likely to win the Evian - as a Major - in the coming years. She is simply too good. So what is next for both Ko and Park? Surely a healthy and entertaining rivalry which will elevate the level of ladies' play for many seasons. Share your thoughts with the Pro Golf Tour.

Evian Championship: Inbee Park Seeks the Ladies Career Grand Slam in France

Perched on the foothills of the French Alps overlooking Lake Geneva South Korea's Inbee Park began her quest to silence the skeptics and complete the LPGA Grand Slam in Evian, France. There are two key facts to keep in mind this week: First, the Evian Championship was elevated to "Major Championship" status this year by the LPGA - making it the fifth major on the ladies' tour. Second, Park has already won the Evian tournament ... however, BEFORE it was classified as a Major.

Park, undoubtedly one of the most gifted lady golfers in many years, faces some still competition. After Round 1 Mi-Hyang Lee from South Korea and America's Lexi Thompson are co-leaders at -5 under par. Park finished her first round at +1 over par and is surely in striking range with 3 rounds to play. What are Park's chances of taking home the Evian trophy and more importantly validating that she has truly won a career grand slam? Send your thoughts to the Pro Golf Tour. Rickie Fowler Wins Deutsche Bank Championship - Moves to #3 in the FedEx Cup Rankings

Rickie Fowler shot a final round -3 under par to defeat Hendrik Stenson by one stroke to finish at -15 under par at the Deutsche Bank tournament this Labor Day weekend.  This win moved Fowler into 3rd place in the FedEx Cup rankings and number 5 in the World Golf Rankings.

Fowler is undoubtedly having the best season of his young career and hope to finish strong at the BMW Championship, the Tour Championship and the President's Cup just around the corner. With Jordan Spieth having missed yet another cut, Jason Day failed to bolster his FedEx Cup lead by finishing T12 at -6 under par, but still holds the lead. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy did not do himself any favors by finishing T28 at -3 under par. So which player has the advantage heading into the BMW Championship in Chicago? Deutsche Bank Update: Hoffman Leads by 3 - Spieth at Risk of Missing Another Cut

With second round play still in-progress American Charlie Hoffman shot an incredible -8 under par today to finish at -12 under par three strokes ahead of Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge sitting at -9 under par. Four players are tied at -8 under par including Americans Rickie Fowler, reigning Players champion, and Zach Johnson, reigning Open Championship winner. Australia's Jason Day is still on the course holding steady at -6 under par. Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy is also on the course at +1 over par.

So where is Jordan Spieth? Good question. Spieth is currently at +4 over par and pending divine intervention is likely to miss his second cut - his second FedEx Cup playoff cut - in a row. While not  a matter of life and death, America's golden boy and presumed 2015 Player of the Year is at serious risk of loosing any viable chance of winning the FedEx Cup after leading in the point race most of this year. So what is causing Spieth so much trouble the past two weeks? Share your comments with the Pro Golf Tour ... and if your are a Spieth fan, pray for a miracle and fast.

Deutsche Bank Championship: Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge Takes the Round 1 Lead

Brendon de Jonge shot -6 under par to take a two stroke lead after the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship outside of Boston. This tournament is the second leg of the four-week long FedEx Cup playoffs. Jason Day finished strong at -3 under par following his win at the Barclays last week who currently sits atop the FedEx Cup rankings just ahead of Jordan Spieth.

Meanwhile, the world's number ranked Rory McIlroy shot -1 under par in Round 1. McIlroy is ranked 15th in the race for the FedEx Cup. Spieth had been leading the FedEx Cup points race most of this season until he missed the cut at the Barclays opening the way for Day to capture the lead.
