Jason Day Surpasses Jordan Spieth to Lead the FedEx Cup Rankings

Jason Day has undoubtedly played the best golf of his career over the past 6-8 weeks. His win this past week at the Barclays moved him into the #1 poll position in the race for the FedEx Cup ahead of Jordan Spieth. Spieth had been leading the FedEx Cup points race most of this season until he missed the cut at the Barclays opening the way for Day to capture the lead.

This week's Deutche Bank tournament represents a showdown on two fronts: First, contention for the FedEx Cup. And second, position in the World Golf Rankings. Rory McIlroy regained the #1 position in the World Golf Rankings after Spieth's missed the cut at the Barclays and will play the Deutche Bank championship. Spieth needs either a win or top 2-3 finish to overtake Day atop the FedEx Cup rankings. So who has the edge heading into the Deutche Bank tournament? Send your picks to the Pro Golf Tour.

Barclays Round 3: Sangmoon Bae and Jason Day are Co-Leaders at -11 Under Par

With Round 3 of the Barclays tournament coming to a close South Korea's Sangmoon Bae and Australia's Jason Day are tied for the lead at -11 under par. Americans Zach Johnson and Bubba Watson are on the 18th hole currently at tied -10 under par.

With Jordan Spieth having missed the cut a win or T2 finish by Day, Johnson or Watson could significantly tighten the FedEx Cup point standings. Spieth has a major lead, however, with 2000 FedEx Cup points going to the Barclays winner Day, Johnson or Watson could narrow Spieth's lead heading into the Deutsche Bank Championship next week. Who will come out on top? Send your comments to the Pro Golf Tour. To view the complete Barclays leaderboard please visit: http://www.golfchannel.com/tours/pga-tour/2015/barclays/

Bubba Watson Leads the Barclays By One Stroke After Round 2

Bubba Watson finished round 2 at -7 under par one stroke better than Jason Dufner, Tony Finau, Zach Johnson and Hendrik Stenson heading into the third round on Saturday. Watson is currently sitting in 3rd place in the FedEx Cup rankings and a win or top 2 finish this weekend could move him ahead of Jason Day who is now ranked number 2.

By contrast, Jordan Spieth reign as the world's number 1 ranked male golf was short-lived as he finished at +7 over par today and failed to make the cut along with Rickie Fowler and Brandt Snedeker. For Tiger Woods, his 2015 PGA Tour is over as he finished T10. Tiger needed to either win or place solo second at the Wyndham Championship to qualify for the FexEx Cup tourney. It is doubtfull that Tiger will be a Captain's pick for this year's President's Cup in South Korea. Tiger Woods trails leader Jason Gore by a single shot with one hole to play in the 3rd round of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, NC. His immediate goal is to play in the final pairing come Sunday's final round putting him in position to win or place solo second.

Such an effort will assure Tiger a place in the FedEx Cup playoffs which begin next week at the Barclay's Championship and a shot at his third FedEx Cup. Wyndham Championship: Round 2 Update - Tiger Still in the Hunt at -7 Under Par

American Tom Hoge leads the Wyndham Championship half way into the second round at -11 under par one stroke better than 2016 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III who finished at -10 under par. The critical question for this tournament is two-fold: Who will make it into the FedEx Cup playoffs? And second, for those already assured a spot in the magic 125 heading into the Barclay's tournament, how much will they improve their FedEx Cup point total?

This we know for sure: Barring a major collapse Tiger Woods, currently sitting at -7 under par with nine holes to play will move into Round 3. Tiger needs to either win or place solo second place to move into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Being four strokes off the lead with two rounds to play gives him plenty of time to catch the leaders. To keep any eye on the leaderboard visit:  http://www.golfchannel.com/tours/pga-tour/2015/wyndham-championship/ As always, send your comments about Tiger's chances to the Pro Golf Tour.

Tiger in the Hunt at the Wyndham Championship (Round 1 Leaderboard)

Tiger Woods showed some of his classic golf techniques today shooting a -6 under par in the opening round of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. This is his first time playing in this event and is a great opportunity to play some low stress golf while many of the top-ranked golfers take a week of rest prior to the post-season. Woods finished two strokes off the first round lead held by Erik Compton and William McGrit at -8 under par.
This event is Tiger's last chance to capture enough points to reach the top 125 in FedEx Cup points to reach the playoffs which begin next week at the Barclays tournament. Will Tiger make it into the 2015 FedEx Cup playoffs? Send your comments to the Pro Golf Tour.

Woods has stated that if he missed the FedEd Cup he will play in international tournaments until the 2016 PGA tour wrap-around season begins this fall.

Jordan Spieth Captures the World's #1 Golf Ranking

With a stunning major championship performance this year - two wins, a T4 and a second place finish at last week's PGA Championship Jordan Spieth ascended to #1 place in the World Golf rankings.

We now see the emergence of an international threesome which could lead men's professional golf for several years to come: The twenty seven year-old Jordan Spieth, twenty six year-old Rory McIlroy and twenty seven year-old Jason Day ... all great statesmen for the sport of golf. Let us know your thoughts at the Pro Golf Tour.

PGA Championship: Jason Day Wins First Major - Sets Scoring Record

Australia's Jason day won the PGA Championship by three strokes over Jordan Spieth to capture his first major win. Twenty-seven year-old Day has long been thought to be one of the world's best golfers not to have won a major title - until yesterday. His stunning display of golf shots set a major championship scoring record ending at -20 under par on a very challenging course, Whistling Straits. Day has moved to #3 in the official world golf ranking.

Fighting back tears of joy and relief Day graciously accepted the Wanamaker Trophy in front of thousands of cheering fans. What does the future hold for Jason Day. Well, this writer believes there are likely several more major wins in his future. Soon Day will compete in the FedEx Cup playoffs and lead the President's Cup team this October in South Korea. Send your comments about Day's win to the Pro Golf Tour.

PGA Championship: Round 3 Leaderboard (Play in-progress)

With the leading players still to tee-off for Round 3 there has been some good scoring at Whistling Straits so far today. Phil Mickelson carded a -6 under par to put himself back in contention.Meanwhile, Matt Jones, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth have yet to begin play. This course is notorious for its afternoon wind off of Lake Michigan could could make conditions for the players with later tee times more challenging.

Rory McIlroy is currently T16 at the 11th hole shooting -3 under par thus far. But all eyes will shortly turn to Jones, Day and Spieth as they seek to take the lead going into Sunday's final round. So which player in this packed field has the advantage? Share your thougths here at the Pro Golf Tour. Leaderboard: http://www.pga.com/pgachampionship/scoring/leaderboard

FedEx Cup: Tiger Woods to Play in Next Week's Wyndham Championship

Tiger Woods has missed the cut at both this year's Open Championship and now the PGA Championship at Whitsling Straits. This is the first time is many years that Tiger has not played the weekend at two majors in a single season. Tiger is currently ranked 186th in FedEx Cup points and only the top 125 ranked players by FedEx Cup points are invited to the post-season playoff.

Facing the challenge of not playing until the beginning of the 2016 year-round PGA Tour beginning in October at the Frye's Championship Woods has decided for the first time to play in next week's Wyndham tournament in North Carolina in the hope of gaining enough FedEx Cup points needed to make the post-season playoffs. He has reportedly never played the course where the Wyndham Championship wil be held, however, this course is said not to demand alot of driving - Tiger's weak point this year. The Golf Channel's David Duval stated yesterday that he played this same course with a three-wood and no driver. This fact, along with the likelihood that many of the top-ranked players will take the week off may play to Tiger's chances to playing in a low pressure, kinder, gentler field as he seeks to breath new life into his game. Just how will Tiger perform next week? Share your thoughts with the Pro Golf Tour.

Golfers around the world are all very excited about the return of men's and women's golf to the 2015 Olympics in Brazil. However, the Olympics - every four years - will pose major challenges for professional tournament schedules in the US, Europe and Asia.

With the four top-ranked players from each country eligible to play Olympic golf next year the impact on PGA and European PGA tournament schedules will be significant. the Olympics will take place in August. The PGA announced this morning that the 2016 PGA Championship will be played just two weeks after the Open Championship. PGA Championship: Best Player Not to have Won a Major

On the eve the 2015 PGA Championship to age old question needs to be asked once again: Who is the best player in the field not to have won a major tournament. My short list includes Sergio Garcia, Hendrik Stenson, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler and Dustin. With the possible exception of Sergio, whom we all love, most of these players' average driving distance is at or over 300 yards and for the most part straight as well.
This fact bodes well for these men when taking on Whistling Straits.
And what about the weather-playing conditions. Will we see calm, warm, humid Mid-West weather this week or will conditions more closely resemble an Open Championship in the British Isles? Send us your thoughts here at the Pro Golf Tour.

Dustin Johnson Seeks PGA Redemption at Whistling Straits

Most everyone in the global golf community painfully remember the ruling mishap Dustin Johnson experienced late on Sunday in the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits that may have cost him the winner's trophy. Well, this week's return to the same venue and the same championship provides an excellent opportunity for "DJ" to capture his first major championship and redemption from 2010.
Many golfers, myself included, consider Johnson to be one of the world's best pro golfers not to have won a major. DJ hits the ball long and straight - a perfect combination for this Pete Dye designed course. With Rory McIlroy back and Jordan Spieth seeking his third major this season the competition will undoubtedly be quite stiff. However, DJ is hungry for the win and we wish him much success. Do how will Johnson perform under great pressure come Sunday afternoon? Send your thoughts to the Pro Golf Tour.

Rory McIlroy Set to Defend His PGA Championship

The stage is set for this week's PGA Championship, the year's final major tournament, for Rory McIlroy to defend his PGA Championship and retain the world's #1 ranking at Whistling Straits. McIlroy's World Golf Ranking lead over Jordan Spieth has been eroded over the last month due to his absence from tour play.

A win by Jordan Spieth this week would vault the young 22 year old into the world's #1 ranked pro golfer position. While McIlroy is the defending PGA Champion, reports indicate that the Whistling Straits course may favor Spieth. And then their are questions about McIlroy's ankle injury and how the hilly course might affect his play. Stay tuned to the Pro Golf Tour for breaking news.

Shane Lowry Wins Bridgestone Invitational

Ireland's Shane Lowry finished at -11 under par to beat Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk and Justin Rose to capture his first PGA Tour victory over several seasoned professionals.  This win assures the young Irishman a place in next week's PGA Championship and the 2016 Masters. So what does the future hold for Lowry? Send your thoughts to the Pro Golf Tour.

Separately, Jordan Spieth finished strong with a -4 under par in the final round with an eye on this week's PGA Championship. for more information visit: http://www.pga.com/pgachampionship

PGA Championship: McIlroy-Spieth-Z. Johnson Threesome for Rounds 1 & 2

It's official. World's #1 ranked Rory McIlroy will tee it up at Whistling Straits this coming Thursday at 2:20pm local time alongside Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson. Together, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson have won the last five major championships from 2014-2015. Moreover, Mr. McIlroy is the PGA Championship defending champion.

Wow. What a threesome! Not since attending the 2012 US Open at San Francisco's Olympic Club and walking with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson do I recall such a power threesome. The world's number ranking is one the line next week. Who will emerge as the victor? Send your thoughts to the Pro Golf Tour.

Will Rory McIlroy Play in the 2015 PGA Championship?

Rory McIlroy has reportedly returned to the US from his native Northern Ireland following last months ankle injury. And although he is not in this week's Bridgestone Invitational field in Akron, Ohio what is the likelihood that he will play at Whistling Straits next week? From all accounts Whistling Straits is quite demanding physically, even on the youngest and healthiest players. Has his ankle fully healed and would he have the stamina after a month layoff to play in a major championship?

One motivating factor surely is the factor that a American Jordan Spieth next Sunday would supplant McIlroy as the world's #1 ranked golfer. Send us your thoughts on the possibility-probability that McIlroy will in fact contend for the 2015 Wanamaker Trophy here at the Pro Golf Tour.

Shooting a -3 under par opening round at the Bridgestone Invitational America's Rickie Fowler holds a one stroke lead over France's Victor Dubuisson at -2  under par and five other players. First round play is still in-progress.

Rickie Fowler, fresh off his strong showing at the Open Championship, along with Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson are surely among this week's picks to take home the WGC Bridgestone Invitational trophey. Troy Merritt Wins Quicken Loans Championship by Three Strokes Over Rickie Fowler

America's Troy Merritt won his first PGA title on Sunday at the Quicken Loans Championship hosted by Tiger Woods. Tiger played the weekend and finished -8 under par a relatively strong finish for Woods this year.
Rickie Fowler appears to be very well positioned heading into the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits as well as the FedEx Cup playoffs. Woods however needs to play next week's Wyndam tournament to hopefully qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Inbee Park Wins the Ladies British Open - Has She Won the Grand Slam?

South Korea's Inbee Park won the ladies British Open in Turnberry, Scotland shooting -12 under par three strokes better than Jin Young Ko also from South Korea at -9 under par.
Does this major win constitute a Grand Slam for Park? The answer is based on how you define the ladies Gran Slam - three, four or now five major championships. More specifically, at issue is the Evian Championship in France this September. Park won the Evian Championship "before" it was classified as a major, however, this September she will have the opportunity to put her detractors to rest with a win at Evian. What are her chances of winning the Evian Championship? Let us know your picks here at the Pro Golf Tour.
